Welcoming Our Newest Neighbors

Over the course of the last twenty years, thousands of Afghans have assisted American military forces as they have fought a war against the Taliban.  In 2021, as the US evacuated Kabul, nearly 75,000 of these brave individuals also fled the country. Because of their alliance with America, they would have faced dire consequences if they had stayed in Afghanistan.   They have been offered asylum in the United States and are now seeking to start a new life in this country. 76,000 have been resettled from US military bases to cities around the nation.

However, a large number of those Afghan refugees are being temporarily housed in hotels and still need assistance to start a new life here in America. Here in Hickory, North Carolina, a number of individuals, ministries, and churches have formed a partnership to bring several refugee families to live among us as our neighbors.  In order to take donations to help fund the costs of resettlement, they are partnering with FOCHUS, a faith-based 501(c)3 nonprofit offering support services to the refugee community. Would you consider making a tax-deductible donation here on the FOHCUS website?  All proceeds received through this portal will go directly toward Afghan refugee resettlement in Hickory.  You can also mail a check to Afghan Advocates, 2064 46th Ave Dr NE, Hickory, NC 28601.
